The team signed backup offensive guard Calvin Throckmorton to a one-year, $1.055 million contract, a source told Mike Klis of 9 News. Throckmorton has $150,000 of his salary guaranteed and can make another $200,000 in play-time incentives.
Throckmorton, 27, started 14 games for New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton and assistant offensive line coach Zach Strief in 2021. Payton is now the Broncos' head coach and Strief is Denver's head offensive line coach -- a big reason why Throckmorton signed with the Broncos instead of returning to the Tennessee Titans.
At Oregon, Throckmorton graduated with a degree in human physiology yet found time to start 52 consecutive games at four different offensive line positions - right tackle (41), left tackle (5), center (3) and right guard (3).
Signed by the Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2020, Throckmorton spent his rookie year on the practice squad, then started 14 games in 2021 - four at right guard; and 10 at left guard.
He started six more games for the Saints in 2022, then split his time last season with Carolina and Tennessee.
