Former Buffalo Bills safety George Wilson left the Lions' practice facility without signing a contract Thursday. But he also left with a favorable view of the Lions and his potential role with the team, Chris McCosky of the Detroit News reports.
"I am very optimistic about my visit," Wilson said in a story on the team's website. "We will see what happens as we move forward."
The Lions presently have three safeties under contract — Don Carey, Tyrell Johnson and special teams ace John Wendling. They are expected to tender restricted free agent Amari Spievey, who has been cleared after suffering two concussions in little more than a year.
Veteran and oft-injured Louis Delmas is an unrestricted free agent and the Lions are looking for both veteran stability and leadership at that position.
"They are looking for something and they see that I possess what they are looking for," Wilson said. "I definitely think I fit what they are looking for."
