The Kansas City Chiefs have signed journeyman quarterback Blaine Gabbert according to Ian Rapoport of

Contract terms have not yet been disclosed.  Originally a first-round pick out of Missouri by the Jaguars in 2011, Gabbert washed out quickly as a starting quarterback but has managed to carve out a lucrative career as a backup for several NFL teams.  He spent the past three seasons backing up future Hall-of-Famer Tom Brady in Tampa Bay and now gets the chance to back up another future Hall-of-Famer Patrick Mahomes in KC.  Great work by Gabbert's agent.

Now 33 years old, Gabbert will battle Shane Buechele and Chris Oladokun for a spot on the Chiefs 53-man roster this offseason.  He should be considered the favorite for the job given that Andy Reid has favored veterans to back up Mahomes.
