The Chicago Bears have released left tackle Charles Leno according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

The move comes as a surprise as Leno has been a starter on the Bears offensive line ever since he was drafted in the seventh-round of the 2014 draft out of Boise State.  The Bears did draft Oklahoma State left tackle Teven Jenkins in the second round this weekend so apparently Leno was deemed expendable.  Now 29 years old, Leno's play has tailed off in recent seasons and he was ranked as only the 26th best tackle in the league in 2020 but he has been extremely durable, missing only three regular season games in seven seasons.  He should have no trouble finding a new team well before the start of training camp given the dearth of dependable linemen in the league.
