As expected, J.C. Jackson’s second stint with the Patriots came to an end Friday, Matt Vautour of Masslive reports.
Cutting Jackson will cost the Patriots nothing in dead money and will save them about $14 million under the cap.
According to Patscap, the Patriots have over $100 million available heading in free agency. Patscap tweeted:
That’s the most available cap space of any team according to Over The Cap.
Jackson, who rose from undrafted free agent in 2018 to standout cornerback. In his first four seasons with New England he amassed 25 interceptions. He was named to one Pro Bowl and won one Super Bowl with the Patriots.
He signed a five-year, $82.5 million deal free-agent contract with the Los Angeles Chargers after the 2021 season. He was injured in 2022 and then he clashed with coaches and teammates last year before being traded back to the Patriots for a swap of late-round draft picks.
