The Patriots are in a position to select one of the top quarterbacks available in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Of course, the team could also opt to trade down.

Although the Patriots have other needs such as left tackle and wide receiver, Patriots owner Robert Kraft hopes his team brings in a quarterback with high upside next month, Mark Daniels of Masslive reports. After watching Mac Jones decline, Kraft also believes his team is in a better position to support a young quarterback this time around.

“I guess as a fan, putting my fan hat on, I definitely would,” Kraft said when asked if he wanted to see the Patriots draft a quarterback. “In the end, you can’t win in this league consistently unless you have a first-rate quarterback and a first-rate coach. On the other hand, you’re in a different position, and we’ve never been in the third draft position since we owned the team. What happens, a lot of people behind are really desperate to move up.

“We’re going to be open to whatever can come our way, but in the end, I’ll let the team make the decision with what they think is best. One way or another, I’d like to see us get a top-rate young quarterback.”

The Patriots could easily accomplish their owners’ wish by drafting either LSU’s Jayden Daniels or North Carolina’s Drake Maye with their No. 3 pick. On Monday, head coach Jerod Mayo said the team is open to trading down, collecting more assets, or standing pat and drafting a player at three.

At this point, the expectation is that the Patriots will draft a quarterback and pair him with veteran Jacoby Brissett. The team met with the top quarterbacks in this draft class at the NFL Combine, interviewing Caleb Williams, Maye, Daniels, and J.J. McCarthy.
