The Patriots have reportedly only received ‘laughable’ trade offers for No. 3 pick

The Patriots may be ‘”open for business” ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft but as of Tuesday, it seems like other teams are simply just window shopping, Faith Pinnow of The Boston Globe reports..

While New England is still accepting calls on a possible trade back from the No. 3 pick, they’ve received “laughable” offers for the pick, MassLive’s Mark Daniels and Karen Guregian reported Tuesday. The Patriots are still open to moving down, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport also reported Tuesday.

Head coach Jerod Mayo stated that another team would need to offer a “bag” for the Patriots to budge, but no “serious” bids have emerged yet, according to Daniels and Guregian.

Understandably, the price for the third pick is steep. New England has a prime position in the first round, perfectly poised to take a top-tier signal-caller. In theory, it’s the Patriots’ dream scenario.

After offloading Mac Jones to Jacksonville and bringing veteran QB Jacoby Brissett to Foxborough, they would be in the position to select a top quarterback prospect at No. 3.

Before the NFL Combine, it was widely believed that three quarterbacks – USC’s Caleb Williams, LSU’s Jayden Daniels, and UNC’s Drake Maye – would be the first players off the board.

However, the rise of Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy significantly changed the landscape. Some executives actually have McCarthy ranked above Maye, a member of another team reportedly told Daniels and Guregian.

Maye and McCarthy both have “fans” in the Patriots building, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. If Mayo and Wolf did accept a trade-down deal, they theoretically could target McCarthy or Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. later in the first round.
