The New England Patriots have locked up their rookie quarterback, Lauren Campbell of Masslive reports.
According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Drake Maye and the Patriots agreed to terms on his rookie contract. The terms of the deal are unknown.
New England drafted Maye out of North Carolina with the third-overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft in April. It’s unclear if he’ll be ready to be the Week 1 starter when the season begins, but there is a lot of optimism surrounding Maye that he will be the next franchise quarterback of the six-time Super Bowl champions.
Maye has taken part in rookie minicamp, and the Patriots wasted no time in trying to improve his footwork — which is a big area of focus in trying to get the 21-year-old NFL-ready.
The quarterback has impressed those around him, including his veteran teammate and fellow QB Jacoby Brissett.
