The Miami Dolphins won't be activating pass rusher Shaq Barrett off the reserve/retired list, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports. This according to a league source.
This means Barrett, who retired before the season, won't play this season.
The latest news was first reported Thursday by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Barrett has expressed an interest in returning to the field for the stretch run.
And while he was open to a return to Miami, a release could have allowed him to play elsewhere.
The Dolphins maintain Barrett's rights after the preseason retirement.
Barrett also won't be released to play for another team.
