Seahawks head coach Mike McDonald bristled when asked if there was any scenario where Sam Darnold would not start at quarterback according to John Boyle of seahawks.com.
“This is a crazy question, Sam’s our starting quarterback” McDonald replied. And if things go well for the Seahawks and they compete for a playoff spot we would agree with him.
It's if things go south with the Seahawks and/or Darnold suffers a serious injury that the other scenarios come into play. Both the team and Milroe would be better off if he doesn't play a single regular-season down in 2025. Milroe is very talented but raw and is considered a longterm project.
We don’t think it’s completely wild to imagine Jalen Milroe taking over if things go bad down the stretch, particularly with Darnold’s contract not having extensive guarantees into the second season. Still, this is something Macdonald had to say given where the team is at right now.
