Video footage of the incident quickly went viral online, with one clip showing the exact moment he was struck.
Police and emergency responders were also shown on the scene, with the player seen receiving medical assistance on the ground before being placed on a stretcher, wheeled into an ambulance, and taken to the hospital.
The Jets released a statement regarding the incident on Sunday afternoon.
One of Boyd’s friends told the New York Post the player was “all good right now. He’s in good condition. He’s doing real good.”
The incident sent shockwaves around the NFL, prompting several reactions from teammates and other players. It is particularly distressful as it comes shortly after the death of Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshan Kneeland, who allegedly took his own life earlier this month.
