The NYPD has revealed a possible motive regarding the shooting of New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd that suggests it was not random.
Boyd was left to fight for his life after getting shot outside of the Midtown Sei Less restaurant while out with teammates Irvin Charles and Jamien Sherwood last Sunday.
The New York Post reported that the altercation began when a group of men approached Boyd and his teammates, mocking their outfits and asking why they were “dressed so fancy.”
Kris Boyd & Crew Sensed “The Vibe Was Off”

According to NYPD Detective Chief Joseph Kenny, Boyd’s group entered the restaurant but didn’t stay more than a few minutes, having sensed that “the vibe was off.” The same group of men confronted them outside, bringing their clothing up yet again. Boyd sustained a gunshot wound moments after.
The Jets CB was shot in the lung but is expected to make a full recovery and has since broken his silence on the near-fatal incident.
Surveillance footage of the shooter was later released, with police making headway in the case. However, the suspect has not been named as probable cause has not been established.

Kenny also revealed that a $185,000 watch was recovered from the scene of the shooting, but none of the Jets players have claimed it. And, while the watch could be pertinent, he noted that none of the players reported a robbery or made claims of anyone trying to steal anything from them.
“At no point did anybody announce a robbery or try to steal anything from the Jet players,” he said.
Boyd remains hospitalized following his injury but is now breathing on his own.
