Fox Sports’ Erin Andrews faced criticism this week after talking about the sacrifices she made to build her career. She shared the story on her “Calm Down” podcast with co-host Charissa Thompson while discussing what it’s like to work during the holidays. Andrews talked about being on the air for Thanksgiving and explained how often her job keeps her away from home.

She recalled advice she heard early in her career. “This is what one of my first professors said,” Andrews said. “‘If you don’t want to make forty thousand dollars in your first job, get out, If you don’t want to be told you need a nose job, get out. If you don’t want to be divorced, get out, If you don’t want to work holidays, get out.’”

And maybe because of all this kind of pressure, she and her husband Jarret Stoll had plans of having another child through surrogacy.

Andrews said, “And I don’t say it like that, but I say you got to love what you do because I miss all holidays. I didn’t get married until I was in my 40s. “

She added that she missed weddings, family events and most major holidays while working her way up.

She also went on to say, “You have to love it to get you through the fact, ‘I’m not gonna be home for Thanksgiving next week’ or ‘Christmas is cut short.”

Fans Push Back On Andrews’ Comment

Many fans did not welcome her comments. Some felt her remarks did not line up with the reality most people face.

One person wrote, “Cry me a river. Her net worth is about $20 million!! $20 MILLION to smile and ask simple questions that any one of us can ask. I’d guarantee every serviceman and first responder works a lot harder for a lot less and doesn’t whine about it.”

Another person says, “Does not have my sympathy, sorry,” for Andrews.

Another fan said, “You poor thing. I feel so bad for you. How are you going to make it? Tone deaf.”

Others questioned her early-career salary reference. One person wrote, “$40k???? My 1st offer was $18k. Brutal back in 2000.”

Some listeners said Erin Andrews earned her success, but they still felt her comments sounded out of touch considering her long, well-paid career at Fox and ESPN. It’s true that many young reporters deal with the same pressures without the big salaries that come later.

Andrews hasn’t responded to the criticism. Her comments connected with many people who are also trying to balance long work hours and family responsibilities during the busiest time of the year.
