NFL fans are demanding an investigation after Pete Carroll’s bizarre decision at the very end of the Las Vegas Raiders-Denver Broncos game on Sunday.

The Raiders were trailing the Broncos 24-14 in the waning seconds of the game. Kenny Pickett connected with Tyler Lockett for a 26-yard gain, and the clock should have expired to end the game.

But safety Brandon Jones took a delay of game penalty at the end, allowing the Raiders to try one more play. Instead of challenging his offense for a garbage-time TD, Carroll played it safe and sent out Daniel Carlson for a field goal attempt on the game’s final play.

The Raiders wound up losing 24-17. The game spread was Denver by 9.5 points. So you can guess how fans reacted to this.

“You cannot convince me Pete Carroll didn’t know the number,” one fan said.

“Investigate Pete Carroll right now for that garbage time field goal. Broncos -9.5 just lost because of it,” a user wrote.

“Pete Carroll 👀 @FBI,” said another.

“Pete Carroll should be at home in his rocking chair but instead he has the Raiders down 10 kicking past second fgs to cover the spread,” quipped one fan.

“Interesting choice to kick the FG and cut it to seven as the clock expires. Nothing fishy there. 🙄,” said a user.

“This is honestly prison. I’ve never seen a shadier sequence in my life. Prison for Pete Carroll and that ref,” wrote Dave Portnoy.

Before Sunday’s game, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that some around the NFL and in the Raiders’ organization “are wondering if Carroll will survive this season”. So make of that what you will.
