Trey Hendrickson’s frustrating and forgettable 2025 season is over.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Trey Hendrickson is undergoing core muscle surgery, which will sideline him for six weeks. So, barring a completely improbable run in January, the four-time Pro Bowler is done for the season.

Hendrickson has been sidelined since Week 9 with an undisclosed injury. Before he was sidelined, Hendrickson had four sacks and one forced fumble in seven games, per Pro Football Reference.

Currently in his contract year, Hendrickson was widely mentioned as a hot trade candidate before the deadline. The Bengals reportedly sought a first-round pick for their star edge rusher, but nothing came together.

The Bengals must regret their stubbornness and refusal to lower the asking price. Now, it looks like they’ll lose Trey Hendrickson for nothing.

Technically, Cincinnati is alive in the playoff race. They’ll have to win out and finish 8-9, which is doable with Joe Burrow leading the offense.

The Pittsburgh Steelers lead the AFC North with a 9-8 record. They’ll have to lose three of their final four games and finish 8-9 for the Bengals to have a chance. That’s asking for a lot, though, with games against the 6-7 Miami Dolphins and 3-10 Cleveland Browns remaining. And the 6-7 Baltimore Ravens are still very much in this.

In other words, Bengals fans shouldn’t get their hopes up.

Cincinnati declined to meet Hendrickson’s previous trade request. They didn’t give him a contract extension, either. So after all of that, it looks like they’re poised to lose Hendrickson for nothing in 2026 free agency.
