With the NFC East already locked up and the conference’s top seed out of reach, the Philadelphia Eagles are playing it safe with quarterback Jalen Hurts and their key starters.

The Eagles’ thrilling 13-12 win over the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium improved their record to 11-5. They’ll wrap up the regular season against the NFC East rival Washington Commanders at home on Sunday.

Despite having a shot at the NFC’s No. 2 seed, however, Nick Sirianni has decided not to take any chances with Jalen Hurts and his starters.

According to Jeff McClane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the defending Super Bowl champions “are expected to rest” Hurts and most of their starters against the Commanders.

An Eagles win and a Chicago Bears loss to the Detroit Lions would push Philly into the No. 2 seed. If both teams win their Wild Card Round matchups, the No. 2 seed would host the other in the Divisional Round.

Assuming Hurts sits the entire game? His 2025 regular-season stat line will conclude with 3,224 passing yards, 25 touchdowns (a career-high) and six interceptions. He also had 421 rushing yards and eight rushing scores.

Much has been made about the relationship between Hurts and star receiver AJ Brown, who’s enduring a frustrating 2025 campaign. But Brown has posted 68-plus yards in five of his last six games. So, perhaps he and Hurts are really saving their best for last.

The Eagles lost at home to the Bears in their Black Friday game. Clearly, Sirianni isn’t afraid of having to potentially visit Chicago in the postseason.
