Former NFL quarterback Nick Foles had some words of support for the Denver Broncos in the wake of Bo Nix’s season-ending injury. And he took the opportunity to troll the New England Patriots.

Nix is done for the playoffs, having fractured his ankle against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday night. Jarrett Stidham is set to start in his place.

Denver found out who their next opponents will be on Sunday. The Patriots beat the Houston Texans 28-16 in a historic five-interception game and will meet the Broncos in next Sunday’s AFC Championship Game

While Nix’s absence could prove difficult, Foles reckons the Broncos actually have the edge.

“Note for the Broncos and their fans: I know it has been an emotional 24 hours. I feel for Bo and the team, and I’m sending prayers for a strong recovery,” he tweeted on Sunday evening.

“A positive note going into the game versus the Patriots is that they struggle against backup QBs in championship-type games.”

Foles has firsthand experience beating the Pats as a backup, winning Super Bowl MVP against Tom Brady in 2018. While he’s the most famous backup to beat New England, he’s hardly the only one.

Mark Sanchez also beat the Patriots as a backup, leading the New York Jets to a shocking playoff upset in 2011.

The Patriots also lost to a Broncos team led by Brock Osweiler in 2015. The Pats had gone into the game unbeaten at 10-0, but with Peyton Manning injured, they had no chance.

Osweiler kept the ship steady until Manning returned for the playoffs. The Broncos would beat the Patriots again in the conference championship game.

They went on to win the Super Bowl.
