The New England Patriots are headed to the AFC Championship game behind the play of Drake Maye. He still had somebody else on his mind despite his happiness.

Just the day before, the Broncos’ thrilling overtime win in the AFC Division game against the Buffalo Bills was quickly overshadowed. Bo Nix fractured his ankle. The quarterback will undergo surgery and miss the remainder of the season.

That means the New England Patriots won’t see him next week in the AFC Championship Game.

Following the contest, Maye had encouraging words for Nix. “The news is heartbreaking for the player he is, the guy he is. Praying for Bo,” Patriots quarterback Drake Maye said.

“I know he’ll bounce back. He’s a great player in this league. I look forward to matching up with him. We had one in college, and he got the best of me.”

Despite being down their quarterback, Maye is not turning a blind eye to the Broncos. “They got a good team,” he said. “It should be a tough one next week.”

The Patriots and Broncos haven’t played one another since 2023.

Drake Maye and the Patriots will be on the road for that game. They certainly might like it that way. New England went a perfect 8-0 on the road in the regular season.

“We’ll keep doing that, and we know we’ve got to go on the road. No. 1 seed in the AFC, it’s not going to be easy,” Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said. “But we’ll come out and be ready to go.”
