The Denver Broncos may have won a game, but they also lost something quite valuable. Starting quarterback Bo Nix suffered an ankle injury, and the whole situation was a little bizarre.

Nix didn’t seem hurt during the game or in the post-game interview. Then, as reported on MLFootball’s social media, some odd reports began circulating.

Apparently, they took the Oregon product away in a black SUV, and they were quite cryptic with reporters:

“BREAKING: Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix was reportedly taken away in a black SUV after the game, according to reporters. The SUV pulled up to the team locker room & security was hush-hush taking Nix. Bo suffered a broken ankle and is out for the season. Wild situation,” they wrote on X.

Perhaps that was just standard procedure for the franchise player. Then again, given all the reports about his ankle injury, it didn’t take long for people to sound the alarm about his situation.

Ultimately, head coach Sean Payton confirmed what the fans feared the most. He let the media know that Nix suffered an ankle injury that will force him to go under the knife, thus ending his season:

“[Nix] is a tough cookie,” Payton said, per ESPN. “I said, ‘Listen I believe you’re the second quarterback in his second year to take his team to the [conference] championship game and the first is [Patrick] Mahomes.’ … We’ll rise up for the next challenge.”

A clip later showed the exact moment Nix knew his season was over. Ironically, it happened at the very last play, when he kneeled to set the game-winning field goal in overtime.

Now, it’ll be up to veteran backup Jarrett Stidham to lead the Broncos down the stretch. He hasn’t played much in his career, but Coach Payton firmly believes in his talent:

“Stiddy is ready to go,” Payton said. “He’s ready, he’s ready. I feel like I’ve got a two who’s capable of starting for a number of teams, and I know he feels the same way. Watch out, just watch.”

The Broncos will now host either the Houston Texans or the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. They feature two of the toughest and most physical defenses in the game, and not having their starting quarterback on the field could lead to disaster.
