As crazy as it may sound, Mike Tomlin is officially done. He stepped down, leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers’ head coaching position after 18 years on the job.

The former Super Bowl-winning head coach didn’t have a single losing season in Pittsburgh. Then again, it’s been nearly a decade since the Steelers’ last playoff win, so it was probably time for a new challenge.

The Steelers still hold his rights, and he reportedly doesn’t want to coach next season. However, that hasn’t stopped other teams from asking.

According to NFL insider Jay Glazer, as many as seven teams have already reached out to inquire about his availability:

“Everybody has called about Mike Tomlin. I probably had seven teams call me to see if Mike T would think about coming back out and coaching again,” Glazer said, as quoted by Steelers Depot. “I’m like, ‘No, not happening.’ And then I got, I think I had all seven teams coming back again saying, ‘Hey, has he changed his mind?’ No, he definitely hasn’t changed his mind. That’s definitely not happening.”

Even if Tomolin wanted to take any of the jobs, whoever wants him would have to trade for him. The Steelers didn’t fire him, so he’s technically still under contract with the organization.

Mike Tomlin Will Most Likely Be On TV

Most signs point to Tomlin pursuing a career on television. Per Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, networks have been after him for a while now:

“Fox won’t be alone, as Tomlin has been eyed by broadcasters for a decade. From former CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus to the legendary Al Michaels, they have all pointed to Tomlin as a future NFL TV analyst, if he so chooses,” Marchand wrote.

The insider expects Coach Tomlin to join the ever-growing list of former NFL coaches/athletes making big bucks to talk on TV:

“Fox, ESPN, NBC, CBS and Amazon Prime Video would all be better with Tomlin to impart his Tomlin-isms via the small screen. He can likely receive multi-million dollar offers from all of them,” added Marchand.

At the end of the day, Tomlin is still young. He will certainly drew head coaching interest again in the future if he chooses to return. For now, it looks like he’s going to take some time off.
