Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula caused a stir on Wednesday after he threw former head coach Sean McDermott under the bus. During a press conference, the owner responded to a reporter asking general manager Brandon Beane about the lack of quality in the wide receiver position.

When Keon Coleman’s name was brought up, Pegula cut off the reporter and said that Beane was a “team player” at that moment, and decided to listen to the coaching staff.

“The coaching staff pushed to draft Keon,” Pegula said. “I’m not saying Brandon wouldn’t have drafted him, but he wasn’t his next choice. That was Brandon being a team player and taking advice of this coaching staff who felt strongly about the player. He’s taken, for some reason, heat over it and not saying a word about it, but I’m here to tell you the true story.”

Hours after Pegula dropped the bombshell, social media detectives (who have played a big role this season) found that Beane was actually high on Coleman before the draft.

X account “Billy M” shared old videos of Brandon Beane raving about Coleman during the pre-draft offense. At the time, Beane asked Brian Gaines, the Bills’ assistant general manager, if he saw any surprises during the Combine.

Gaines mentioned Coleman running a 4.57 40-yard dash.

“I’m glad he ran that,” Beane said. “It’ll help to get him.”

The Bills drafted Keon Coleman with the No. 33 pick in 2024. The Florida State product carried high expectations coming into the league, but he has failed to unlock his potential.

Besides his lack of production (67 catches for 960 yards and eight touchdowns in 26 games), Coleman has been involved in off-field controversies.

Buffalo’s front office has been under scrutiny after they fired McDermott and promoted Brandon Beane to a bigger role.
