Buffalo Bills fans won’t move on from Sean McDermott so easily. After losing to the Denver Broncos in the divisional round of the 2025 NFL playoffs, the Bills parted ways with the coach after a nine-year partnership. The bombshell caught a lot of people off guard and fans instantly expressed their frustration with the decision.

The Bills reportedly have the “perfect replacement” for McDermott, but fans aren’t entertaining that idea. A big part of the fanbase wants McDermott back. They are using every resource they find to make it possible. Tommy Gallagher of WGRZ wrote on Wednesday that a fan created a petition at Change.org to try to bring the coach back to Orchard Park.

The petition starter, Maria Maisonet, labeled the move as a step backward for the franchise. She noted that they made a lot of progress under McDermott.

“I’ve been a lifelong Buffalo Bills fan for over 40 years, and the recent decision to fire Sean McDermott has left me and countless others heartbroken and baffled,” Maisonet wrote. “Sean McDermott has not only been a strategic mastermind behind our team’s recent successes, but he has also been an inspiring leader with a deep commitment to the Buffalo community.

“Under McDermott’s leadership, the Bills have experienced a remarkable transformation. He revitalized the team’s performance and reignited the passion of the fans. Notably, he led the Buffalo Bills to the playoffs multiple times after a lengthy drought, bringing a renewed sense of hope and excitement to a community that lives and breathes football. His coaching style and strategic insight have been pivotal in shaping a competitive and spirited team that made us proud.”

At the time of writing, the petition has gotten 48,132 verified signatures. It seems unlikely that the Bills change their mind about McDermott, but the impact the coach made on the fans can’t be denied.
