Three former NFL players passed away this weekend, one of them under tragic circumstances. Kevin Johnson, a former defensive lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles, was among them.

Johnson was found stabbed to death in a homeless encampment. Consequently, police have ruled his death a homicide and are investigating.

He was only 55.

“The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said Johnson was pronounced dead Wednesday morning after being found unconscious. His death was ruled a homicide and is being investigated. Johnson was 55,” ESPN reported.

The former defensive lineman was a fourth-round pick out of Texas Southern in 1993. He also played for the New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings and Oakland Raiders.

Kevin Johnson was just one of three former NFL players to die this weekend.

WWE announced the passing of Bobby Duncum Sr., a former professional wrestler who played in the league in 1968. Duncum played in four games after the St. Louis Cardinals drafted him in 1967. He was 81.

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback John Brodie also passed away.

Brodie was 90 years old.

“He displayed an incredible commitment towards his teammates and his support of the organization never wavered after his playing days,” the Niners said in a statement. “John became a dear friend of mine, and he will always be remembered as an important part of 49ers history. We express our deepest condolences to his wife, Sue, and the entire Brodie family.”

Our hearts go out to all of their families.
