The Seattle Seahawks are on their way to the Super Bowl, but one call from the referees almost screwed them.

Seattle Seahawks defensive back Tariq Woolen had a brutal sequence against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. First, he dropped a potential interception on third down. That led to him being called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for taunting the Rams’ sideline. It would become a major talking point in the game.

That penalty from the referees gave the Rams an automatic first down. On the very next play, he was torched deep on a Puka Nacua touchdown. At the time, the Seahawks looked as if they were going to have a double-digit lead headed into the final quarter. His teammates were not happy with him following the sequence. Sideline footage showed them having to be separated from fighting.

Folks on social media also had thoughts on the matter, and it had more to do with the refs.

Fans on social media blasted Tariq Woolen for his dumb penalty. However, many of them thought it should never have been called in the first place. The replay showed that his behavior wasn’t even that bad to warrant a penalty.

Many got online and called for the referees to be investigated.

“Okay, two things are true here. 1. Tariq Woolen should shut up. You made a great play. Talk for 1 second and get off the field. 2. This happens 100 times a game. Volatile bullshit by the refs to throw a flag in this situation. Seahawks got screwed,” one person said.

“NFL, you gotta investigate these refs, they got money on the Rams for sure,” a second fan stated.

“Investigate the refs, must have money on the Rams,” a third fan said.

“INVESTIGATE THESE REFS NOW!!! They have money on the Rams,” a fourth person commented.

The Seahawks likely ended up being on the receiving end of a crucial call later in the contest. They were leading 31-27, facing a critical 3rd-and-8. Sam Darnold found Cooper Kupp to move the chains, as the referees ruled that he barely reached the first-down marker. Many fans thought that moment was rigged as well.

In the end, Tariq Woolen got lucky that his team made it to the Super Bowl despite his blunder. He ended the contest with two tackles.
