Super Bowl 60 is set, with the New England Patriots taking on the Seattle Seahawks at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. These two teams will relive Super Bowl 49, which was decided in the last play by a Malcolm Butler interception.
The league has gone through a lot of changes since that game, going from the Patriots’ dynasty to the Chiefs’, the resurgence of the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams becoming a contender.
An NFL on CBS graphic shows how the competitiveness has disappeared in the last 10 Super Bowls, especially in the AFC.
Graphic Shows That Just Nine Teams Have Played In The Last 10 Super Bowls

NFL on CBS’ X account shared a graphic showing the last 10 Super Bowl matchups. The disparity in the AFC is huge. The New England Patriots played in four of these games (2-1), including this year’s. The Kansas City Chiefs played in five (3-2), while the Cincinnati Bengals of Joe Burrow broke the Patriots-Chiefs dominance.
Things are different in the NFC, but they still have had three teams with two Super Bowl appearances. The Eagles played the big game three times (2-1), while the 49ers did it twice (0-2). The Rams also played twice (1-1), while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-0), the Atlanta Falcons (0-1) and the Seahawks did it once.

Many think the NFL gave fans the script of the 2025 playoffs. Graphics like this could convince fans that something might be happening behind the scenes. Still, there’s no denying that these teams, especially the AFC ones, dominated their conference in the last decade.
