Josh Allen has shouldered the blame for Sean McDermott’s firing.

The Buffalo Bills quarterback was an emotional wreck when he spoke to reporters following the team’s playoff exit. He had no idea how bad things would be just two days later.

The Bills made the decision to fire McDermott after a nine-year run with him as their head coach.

They have since replaced him with Joe Brady, promoting the former offensive coordinator to HC.

While Allen has a great relationship with Brady – he worked with him as a quarterbacks coach and then OC – he regrets McDermott’s exit.

Speaking at the new coach’s press conference on Thursday, last season’s MVP told reporters he was “very emotional” when he learned McDermott had been let go.

“I’m sitting in my house, I wake up, I took a call from Mr. Pegula telling me what transpired,” he said.“I called coach McDermott immediately. I’ve got nothing but love and respect for coach McDermott. The last eight years of my life, he’s been through ups and downs of me as a player, as a person. He’s seen me grow up in a sense.”

Allen also suggested that there would be no such event on Thursday had he completed just one more play.

“To know that we’ve had a lot of success here. I’d be lying to you if I’m sitting here saying that I feel like I had part in it. Because if I make one more play, that game in Denver, we’re probably not having this press conference right now, we’re probably not making a change. We’re probably getting ready to play another game. That’s the hard part to take in from my perspective, but that’s reality. It is what it is now, and I am very fortunate and thankful for coach McDermott and everything that he’s done and the trajectory that he’s set for our players.”

Allen, who showed up to the presser on crutches and in a walking boot, played a key role in Brady’s hiring. He took part in coaching interviews as the Bills kept him in the loop.

While he bemoaned McDermott’s termination, the QB is looking forward to working with Brady in the latter’s capacity as head coach.

“I’m very much looking forward to Joe and everything that entails with him becoming the head coach and guys getting behind him and rallying behind him and understanding his vision because I do believe in it,” he said.

“I fully believe in who we hired,” he declared.

“I truly believe in the direction of this organization, starting from the top.”

Allen threw for 3,668 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, completing 69.3 percent of his attempts.

He started all 17 games despite sustaining a broken foot in December.
