New England Patriots star Drake Maye didn’t mince words when discussing the importance of his mother’s support. Maye is five days away from the most important game of his still-young NFL career, when he will face the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl 60.

The second-year quarterback had an MVP-worthy regular season, leading his team to the No. 2 seed in the AFC, while dethroning the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East division. They will face the biggest challenge of the season as 4.5-point favorites.

Maye carries high expectations, while others say he must win the big game to validate everything he did before. Amid the external noise and concerns about the quarterback’s health, he remains focused on the goal. During his Monday availability, Maye heaped praise on his biggest supporter.

During the first night of the Super Bowl week, Drake Maye took time to thank his parents, and his mom in particular, for helping him and the rest of the family get into a position to win in life.

“She’s been there every step of the way,” Maye said. “I can’t thank her enough for how she’s raised us, including my dad.”

Drake’s mom, Aimee, also competed in sports. She grew up in North Carolina, where she was a star basketball player at West Charlotte High School. She was named the Mecklenburg County girls’ player of the year in her senior year of high school.

After a hard-fought, close 10-7 win over the Denver Broncos in the AFC championship game, Maye prepares for Sunday’s matchup. He proved that he would do anything to take his team to the promised land.
