A video of James Pearce Jr.’s mother, Kizzy Morris, praising his character has gone viral following news of his disturbing arrest.

On Saturday evening, news broke that James Pearce Jr. was arrested in Miami-Dade County, Florida, after a domestic incident with his ex-girlfriend, Los Angeles Sparks forward Rickea Jackson.

A subsequent report provided more terrifying details on Pearce’s arrest. Pearce allegedly crashed his vehicle into Jackson’s on purpose in an effort to prevent her from going to the police station.

The Atlanta Falcons’ star rookie linebacker reportedly ran his vehicle into the knee of a cop before leading police on a high-speed chase. One officer even drew their gun on Pearce, who was eventually arrested and taken into custody.

After Pearce’s arrest, a video resurfaced of Kizzy Morris praising her son’s character at the NFL Honors.

“James has a heart of gold, deep love for family and friends, and a true resilience in the face of doubt. Junior…you have so much success ahead of you. I love you, son.”

Pearce finished third in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting with 173 points. Cleveland Browns rookie linebacker Carson Schwesinger finished first with 44. Seattle Seahawks safety Nick Emmanwori was second with 199.
