Former Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer is dealing with incredible pain this week.

The Super Bowl Champion and his family have to navigate an unimaginable loss. Hoyer, who played in the league from 2009 to 2023, announced a “devastating” family loss on Wednesday.

His sister-in-law, Carissa, died suddenly.

In a recent post on X, Hoyer shared that on February 13th, his younger brother’s wife unexpectedly passed away. His brother and their four daughters are completely devastated. With the announcement was a link for anyone who wants to help support the family financially during an unimaginably difficult time.

“It is with a heavy heart that I write this. On February 13th, my little brother lost his wife, Carissa, suddenly and unexpectedly,” Brian Hoyer wrote.

“She leaves behind him and their four little girls, Josie, Lainey, Ellie, and Hattie. In an instant, he became a widowed father to four daughters under 12. If you can find it in your heart to help us help him and his girls through this unimaginable season, we would be forever grateful. We can’t take away their pain, but together we can help carry the weight. Your support can help ease their burden during this painful time. Please consider donating or sharing to show you care. Every bit helps,” Hoyer posted on X.

As of this writing, the link has acquired more than $40,000 in donations. They have set a $100,000 goal. Brian Hoyer accumulated approximately $46.4 million in career earnings over his 14-year NFL career, per Spotrac.

Over the course of his career, Hoyer played for several teams. That means a ton of fan bases may end up pitching in to help during this difficult time.

Former NFL quarterback Brian Hoyer broke out as a member of the Browns from 2013-14 and went 10-6 across his 16 starts over two years.

He might be 40-years-old, but has never officially retired. The ex-Michigan State Spartan has been a free agent ever since the Las Vegas Raiders released him after the 2023 season. It followed a 2023 season in which Hoyer appeared in three games, throwing for 231 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions.

Hoyer was a mainstay in the New England quarterback room for eight seasons, spread across three different stints. He still could provide a veteran presence in the quarterback room. However, after two missed seasons, his time might be up.

He doesn’t have a high ceiling in terms of skill anymore. If it is over, what a ride it was. Brian Hoyer played 79 games and started 41, ending his career with a 16-25 record. He threw for 10,899 yards, 53 touchdowns, and 37 interceptions.
