The Trey Hendrickson era in Cincinnati will end this offseason. Cincinnati made the decision not to place the franchise tag on Hendrickson before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline. He will become a free agent instead of getting tendered a one-year deal that would’ve been worth around $30 million.

This likely ends what became a contentious relationship between Cincinnati and the 31-year-old. Last summer, it was reported that Trey Hendrickson was done with the Bengals after the two sides made no progress on a new contract.

Then came trade rumors with the Bengals asking for a lot for him. No team would bite. Now, the star pass rusher knows which team he would like to head to.

Hendrickson penned a goodbye to fans after Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET NFL deadline. It marked the end of teams being able to place a franchise tag on players. The deadline also marked the end of his career with the Bengals.

Trey Hendrickson may finally be able to get the long-term deal he was searching for since last offseason. It will come with a new squad.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the free agent pass rusher would “love” to play for the Buccaneers.

Hendrickson made four straight Pro Bowls from 2021-24. However, he was limited to seven games in 2025 due to injury. He recorded four sacks. The star rusher has 81 career sacks, 70.5 of which came between 2020-24. He posted 17.5 sacks in back-to-back seasons in 2023 and ’24.

Trey Hendrickson becomes one of the top free agents available and should command a big contract. The only thing in his way is that he will be 32-years-old during the 2026 season. Not many teams are willing to shell out huge deals to players over the age of 30.
