Geno Smith’s Shocking College GPA Is Going Viral Following Raiders’ Decision To Cut Him

Geno Smith’s college GPA has gone viral on social media following the Las Vegas Raiders’ decision to move on from him.
The team is set to release the quarterback after just one year, much like they did with Pete Carroll.
The move isn’t at all surprising. The Raiders went 3-14 last season, which resulted in them acquiring the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft.
They are expected to select Indiana Hoosiers star and reigning Heisman Fernando Mendoza, leaving little scope for Smith, who was one of the worst-performing quarterbacks in the NFL last term.
The 35-year-old threw 17 interceptions in 15 starts in 2025, the most for any QB. Vegas went 2-15 in those starts.
Geno Smith Did The Bare Minimum

With news of Smith’s release hitting the socials, his academic performance has become a topic of discussion.
Smith maintained a 2.0 GPA at West Virginia, doing just enough to remain eligible to play.
“Geno’s only focus was on football,” MLFootball noted in a post. “His coach claimed he was so dedicated that if the minimum required GPA was 3.5, he’d have exactly 3.5.”

Smith was a Pro Bowler in back-to-back seasons with the Seattle Seahawks after they traded Russell Wilson.
He led the league in completion percentage (69.8) in 2022, throwing for 4,282 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The Seahawks finished 9-8 and lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the first round.
Seattle traded Smith to the Raiders last offseason, signing Sam Darnold in free agency as a replacement.
Darnold helped them to a 14-3 record, with their season culminating in a Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots.
Smith did not fare as well, with both he and Carroll having received their marching orders after a single campaign.
