Baltimore backing out of the Maxx Crosby trade meant renewed interest in Trey Hendrickson. Just four days after the Las Vegas Raiders agreed to trade star pass rusher Maxx Crosby, Baltimore has changed its mind.

The Ravens are allowed to do this because the new league year did not begin until Wednesday. No transactions — whether signings or trades — can become official until March 11 at 4 p.m. ET. All trades are also pending a physical, and NFL Media reports that Baltimore backed out due to a medical issue.

Crosby underwent surgery on the meniscus eight weeks ago. NFL’s official website says it was a meniscus repair, not a meniscus trim, which requires a longer recovery timetable. Baltimore did not want to invest two first-round picks given what the Ravens’ medical experts found during Crosby’s examination.

Their loss meant they needed to pivot elsewhere to bring in defensive help. NFL fans on social media believe the Raves did this once they saw Trey Hendrickson was still on the open market.

“My conspiracy is that the Ravens back-channeled a deal with Trey Hendrickson and used the physical as an excuse to back out of the Maxx Crosby trade. We’ll know tomorrow,” one fan said.

“If the Ravens go sign Trey Hendrickson tomorrow, is there any room for the NFL to investigate collusion on the part of Baltimore to back out of a deal?” a second person wrote.

“If the Ravens sign Hendrickson tomorrow or this week, they may have just ruined legal tampering for the league,” one final fan added.

The Baltimore Ravens have agreed to terms with free-agent edge rusher Trey Hendrickson on a four-year deal worth up to $112 million, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported. It comes less than one day after backing out of their deal with the Las Vegas Raiders to trade for star pass rusher Maxx Crosby.

In Hendrickson, a four-time Pro Bowler, the Ravens find a difference-maker off the edge. They also take him away from a rival team, the Bengals. Hendrickson’s 74.5 sacks rank third-most over the last six seasons.

Much like Crosby, Hendrickson must pass a physical for the Ravens, as well.
