Prominent Sports Surgeon Provides Concerning Details On Maxx Crosby’s Knee Injury, And It’s No Wonder The Ravens Backed Out Of The Trade

A well-known Houston orthopedic surgeon and sports injury expert provided some worrisome insight on Maxx Crosby’s knee injury, following the stunning news that the Baltimore Ravens nixed a blockbuster trade with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Last Friday, news broke that the Raiders agreed to a deal that would send Crosby to the Ravens for two first-round picks. But on Tuesday, the Raiders announced that Baltimore had backed out of the trade after Crosby failed a physical.
In January, Maxx Crosby underwent surgery to fix a torn meniscus in his left knee. Though he’s obviously not 100 percent right now, the Ravens saw enough to decide they didn’t want to make the deal after all.
Dr. Deepak Chona, a popular sports surgeon in Houston, added more in-depth details on Crosby’s injury status. Needless to say, it perfectly explains why the Ravens got cold feet:
“He played on it (the torn meniscus) for two months, so there’s a real chance that knee cartilage has seen some damage. Add that in to a 2023 infection on the same knee…plus now potentially being without much meniscus, and NFL GMs know the data is pretty brutal for long-term production if that’s the case.”

Dr. Chona noted that the majority of players “bounce back well” in the short term. But of course, any team willing to pay a premium for Maxx Crosby in a trade will want assurance that his health isn’t a long-term concern.
Dallas Cowboys Are The Team To Watch In Maxx Crosby Trade Sweepstakes

After the Ravens nixed the trade, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Dallas Cowboys still have interest in making a deal for the 28-year-old.
The Cowboys reportedly offered first and second-round picks for Maxx Crosby. Whether or not Jerry Jones still has that offer on the table is anyone’s guess, but it’s sure going to be difficult for the Raiders to find a team willing to pay more than that now.
Dallas got two first-round picks and Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark from the Green Bay Packers for Micah Parsons. But Parsons was 26 at the time of the trade, and Crosby will be 29 when the 2026 season begins.
With a pair of first-round picks in 2026, Jerry Jones should still be motivated to make a move for Crosby. Adding him to the rebuilt defense would certainly close the gap with the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East.
