Mike Tomlin made headlines again this week. The former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach stepped down after the team couldn’t move past the Houston Texans in the wild-card round of the 2025 NFL playoffs, ending a 19-year tenure.
The Steelers landed Mike McCarthy to replace Tomlin, and now Tomlin could replace another coach in a different field. Following Tony Dungy’s departure from NBC Sports, many fans called for Tomlin to replace him.
“I was never a fan of Dungy on NBC. He’s probably getting replaced with Mike Tomlin,” one fan commented.
“Tony Dungy is a class act. I bet Mike Tomlin replaces him,” a second fan wrote.
“I wonder if NBC is trying to replace Tony Dungy with Mike Tomlin,” another fan said.
Back in February, Andrew Marchand of The Athletic floated the idea that Tomlin was “the No. 1 target” for TV networks, but noted that he might not be open to it.
“The No. 1 NFL TV studio target, former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, might be reluctant to enter TV,” Marchand wrote while naming NBC Sports’ options.
Mike Tomlin Says Proper Goodbye To Pittsburgh Steelers

Tomlin finally broke the silence about his departure from the Steelers. He attended the Ireland Funds Gala on Thursday with his wife, Kiya, to receive a special honor. He was given the Patricia R. Rooney Community Impact Award for his lasting impact.
He showered the Steelers with praise, calling it the “greatest organization in sports.”
“We were here for a long and really good time,” Tomlin said at the Ireland Funds Gala. “It’s been an honor to serve the greatest organization in sports … We’re in somewhat of a nomadic business and so we don’t take that for granted.”

It is unclear what is next for him, but Tomlin won’t miss opportunities.
