Shocking New Report Reveals How Many BILLIONS Of Dollars NFL Teams Have Spent During Record-Breaking Free Agency

NFL teams have already dished out billions of dollars in free agency, with less than a week since the window’s opening.
The 2026 offseason has proven to be a profitable one for free agents.
Teams and players have reached some notable deals in the first week, suggesting that franchises have shifted their stance on free agency.
Organizations seemed to believe that significant free-agent movement didn’t form part of the formula for winning a Super Bowl.
It appears all this has changed this season. Certain players secured mega contracts within hours of free agency opening, as teams have spent unprecedented sums to plug holes on their rosters with high-profile free agents.
Free Agency Compensation Up By Over $1 Billion

ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported that the league has spent a collective $5.83 billion in player compensation. That includes $2.59 billion in guaranteed money.
The aforementioned amount marks a massive jump from the $4.88 billion from the opening week of free agency last year, when $2.19 was guaranteed.
“Since Monday, NFL teams have spent a record $5.83 billion in player compensation, including $2.59 billion guaranteed at signing,” Schefter shared on Friday. “This is up from last year’s $4.88 billion and $2.19 billion over the same period.”
There’s a pretty simple explanation for the rise in fees. The NFL’s salary cap is rising steadily, going from $279.2 million last year to $301.2 million in 2026.
This is mostly due to the whopping 11-year, $110 billion TV rights deal the league secured with broadcasters Amazon, CBS, ESPN, FOX and NBC.
The agreement has triggered a new tier of compensation for players, eight of whom have either set a new market for their position or secured the biggest free-agent deal in history for their roles, based on their average annual values.
