The Green Bay Packers finished the 2025 NFL season on a low note, losing to the Chicago Bears in the wild-card round after suffering another late-game collapse. They lost five consecutive games, raising eyebrows among fans.
The 2026 offseason presented more challenges for the NFC North franchise. With Malik Willis out, the Packers need a new backup quarterback. They have paid attention to young alternatives, but the possibility of landing a veteran QB could be on the cards, too.
Sports Illustrated’s Eva Geitheim mentioned Russell Wilson as a potential candidate to join the Packers.
“After Russell Wilson struggled last season and was swiftly benched for Jaxson Dart, he makes the most sense as a backup,” Geitheim wrote. “The Packers, Jets and Browns are all teams that potentially could prefer an experienced backup in Wilson.”
Green Bay Packers Linked With Explosive Young Quarterback

On the other hand, the Packers emerged as a potential landing spot for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson. With Daniel Jones returning to the team, Richardson’s time with the AFC South team is over. Stephen Holder of ESPN named the Packers a team to monitor as a potential Richardson sweepstakes.
“Update on Colts QB Anthony Richardson, who is available via trade. No deal is imminent, per multiple sources. There are interested teams, but the dust is still settling from free agency. One particular team to monitor: the Green Bay Packers,” Holder wrote.
They could add an experienced quarterback in Wilson or somebody who still needs work to unlock his potential in Richardson.
