NFL Draft prospect Taylen Green has suggested that NFL teams are intent on having him change his position because of his skin color.

Green, a former standout at Arkansas, only wishes to play at quarterback in the pros. But, the way he tells it, that’s not the position teams want to see him fill.

He made the claim while speaking to Robert Griffin III and his wife, Grete, on the ‘Outta Pocket’ podcast.

“I mean, I feel like I’m not trying to make this like a whole like race thing, but I feel like they definitely see my color and think I’m just gonna run or think I’m just a runner and really can’t throw or process things,” he said.

Griffin nodded in agreement, having faced scrutiny over his ability to run when he came into the league. That was somewhat before QB mobility was something the NFL came to embrace.

“RG3, I’m pretty sure you’ve been through that… at this process too,” Green continued. “So I was just trying to beat that stigma and just put everybody on notice that think that way.”

Taylen Green Would Not Be A First

Should Green change his position in the pros, he would not be the first athletic QB to do so. Several mobile signal-callers have ended up playing other roles after entering the NFL.

Former Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor is one example. Pryor switched to wide receiver after spending years as a backup. He was able to play another five seasons thanks to the decision.

Of course, this isn’t always foolproof.

Tim Tebow tried playing tight end when he returned after his baseball stint, but he got cut before the start of the season.

As for Green, Mel Kiper ranks him as the No. 6 QB on his big board.

The 23-year-old threw for 2,714 yards, 19 touchdowns and eleven interceptions in his final college season. He also rushed for a whopping 777 yards plus eight touchdowns.

He’s projected to be a day-three pick.
