NFL fans took issue with the White House’s recent actions involving the league. After the U.S. government started attacking Iran, the administration took a lot of heat.

The White House decided to use footage of sports leagues, including the MLB and the NFL, to celebrate the attacks in the Middle East. A man called Ryan Patrick created a petition to urge the league to take action against the White House.

Patrick wrote that the NFL should be away from a “deadly war” after the U.S. strikes killed 175 people (mostly children) at an elementary school.

“The NFL is well known for aggressively protecting its intellectual property and game footage from unauthorized use. So far, the league has not taken legal action or publicly addressed the video. Football is a sport—not a tool for glorifying war and death,” the petition reads.

At the time of writing, it has racked up 16,051 signatures. The goal is 20,000.

Ryan Clark Called Out White House For Using NFL Footage For Its Propaganda Videos

Former Pittsburgh Steelers star Ryan Clark had a strong reaction to the White House using NFL footage to promote the war against Iran. Clark criticized the office for taking such a sensitive topic like a sport.

“I’m disappointed because, for one, to have ‘Tropic Thunder’ and football highlights on a video about war is one of the more insensitive things that I’ve ever seen. There are families here in our country whose loved ones have decided to give their life to fight for our rights and our freedoms, who don’t see war as a sport. War doesn’t deserve a highlight film, for ‘Tropic Thunder’ to be a part of it. War is not a comedy,” Clark said on his “Pivot” podcast.

“And for these people to be risking their lives, not for our safety as much as for someone else’s agenda, for our regime to be as unserious, as unprofessional, as laughable, and as illegitimate as our leadership is right now, is embarrassing.”

The league had no comment after NBC Sports inquired about the use of NFL-copyrighted footage for the clip, but Clark and plenty of fans took issue with it.
