ESPN insider Adam Schefter’s credibility has taken a few hits in recent times. Earlier this month, fans called him out over a sketchy report on the Maxx Crosby trade. He made headlines again thanks to his oddly familiar setup to report on free agency, drawing attention to him but not precisely for his scoops.

He has debunked some reports in recent times, but it seems that fans are doing the same to him. On Friday, Schefter reported that free agent defensive tackle Christian Wilkins planned to play this season, amid a foot injury rehab. Schefter added that 26 teams reached out to his agent, David Mulugheta.

Fans didn’t appreciate Schefter’s update. Many called him out for sharing Wilkins agent’s words, which was seen as a PR service from the insider.

“My favorite type of reporting is when media does agent PR work for them,” one fan said.

“Schefter drops the ‘26 teams interested’ line like Wilkins is hot property. Nah, it’s agent fluff to mask the truth: cut after a season-ending foot injury, legal beef with Vegas, and whispers of inappropriate locker room behavior making teams wary. Elite DT on paper, but the baggage is heavy. Truth stings: this market’s soft because the red flags are glaring. Whoever signs him is gambling big, expect a short stint and quick fade,” another fan said.

“PS this is Wilkins’ agent and how Schefter gets a ton of his info,” a third fan wrote.

“David Mulugheta just send you exactly what to say? 😂 doing his work for him,” a fourth fan said.

The Las Vegas Raiders cut Christian Wilkins in the first season of his four-year deal with the team. While the reason isn’t clear, some reports claim there was a “Wow” moment that sealed his fate and has every other team wary about adding him to their roster.
