On X/Twitter, Robert Griffin III announced that USA Football selected him as one of 24 players to try out for the 2026 United States men’s flag football team The 36-year-old last played competitive football in 2020 as a backup for the Baltimore Ravens.
God’s plan 🙏🏾
The work is just getting started.

Per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, 12 of the 24 players trying out will be selected to represent the United States in the IFAF Men’s Flag Football World Championship tournament. The games will be held in Düsseldorf, Germany, from Aug. 13-16.
Five days ago, the men’s U.S. flag football team dominated Founders FFC and Wildcats FFC to win the inaugural Fanatics Flag Football Classic event. Founders and Wildcats featured current NFL stars and retired legends like Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski and Luke Kuechly.
Now, Griffin has decided to give a different form of competitive football a shot. We’ll see if it pans out.
Robert Griffin III’s NFL Career Was Derailed By Injuries

Griffin had one of the best rookie seasons of all-time in 2012. The former No. 2 pick led Washington to a surprise NFC East division crown after throwing for 3,200 yards and 20 touchdowns to go along with 815 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
Unfortunately, everyone knows what happened after that. Washington mismanaged Griffin’s health as he was dealing with a knee injury at the end of his rookie season. He would miss ample time again in 2013 and 2014, eventually losing his starting job to Kirk Cousins.
Griffin stuck around as a backup over the next few years. Fast forward to 2026, and he’s going to give a different version of football an opportunity. It’d be quite the story, alright, if he could emerge as a flag football superstar.
