High school track star Nyan Brown is likely down on himself following events that unfolded on Saturday.

Brown appeared to hit Shedeur Sanders’ watch celebration near the end of his relay, resulting in disqualification.

Sanders birthed the viral celebration while at Colorado. While opponents have used it to mock him in the NFL, it remains popular among youth, apparently to their detriment as well.

Brown, who runs for Mallard Creek’s Mavericks, won the 300 hurdles at the state championship on Saturday.

He later made light work of the 1,600 relay and was about to win the Mavericks a third straight title by a significant distance. However, he raised his hand, appearing to hit the Shedeur right before crossing the finish line.

Officials immediately flagged him for a celebration penalty, which disqualified him. Durham’s Jordan High took the No. 1 spot instead.

Nyan Brown Had Already Been Warned

Some on social media have sympathized with Brown, suggesting that the penalty was harsh.

However, it’s reported that he had already received a warning for taunting after winning the hurdles and flexing in front of photographers.

“Earlier in the day when Brown set the 300m Hurdle State Record he was flexed to the photographers beyond the finish line in celebration and turned around walking back to towards the start finishing line and was seen celebrating with a teammate,” NCRunners revealed. “After this race he received a warning for taunting from one of the officials.  With his hand going up prior to the finish line in the 4x400m it was the second violation of taunting and lead to their disqualification.”

If it’s any consolation, Mallard Creek’s girls won their first-ever track state championship on the same day.
