In 2023, Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals agreed to a five-year, $275 million contract extension. His historic contract extension runs through the 2029 season. He does not have an opt-out clause in his contract, meaning he cannot independently choose to leave or become a free agent before the 2029 season ends.

NFL analyst Evan Sidery has an idea to get the Bengals and the Rams what they want years from now. The deal Sidery proposes would send Burrow to the Rams for Ty Simpson and first-round picks in three consecutive seasons. He also notes that the Bengals would save $32.5 million by making the deal.
Matthew Stafford would be 40 years old and unlikely to still be playing or playing at a high level. Getting Joe Burrow would fix their issues. Stafford put together a historic MVP campaign for the Los Angeles Rams in 2025, leading the NFL with 4,707 passing yards and a career-high 46 passing touchdowns.
