Baker Mayfield Trade Rumors Heating Up — Bucs QB Linked To Former Bitter Rival In Blockbuster Deal

The rumors surrounding Baker Mayfield’s future might not stop anytime soon. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback kept the team relevant after Tom Brady retired.
He led the team to the playoffs in his first two seasons, elevating his game each campaign. Ahead of the 2026 season, his future remains anybody’s guess. On Friday, he expressed his desire to stay in Tampa, but negotiations have stalled.
“First and foremost, regardless, we’ve built roots here in Tampa. We love the community, we love being here. They’ve embraced us. We enjoy being here and, obviously, are going to raise kids here,” Mayfield said, via Bucs insider Greg Auman.
“But the contract stuff, it’s happening, it’s starting — talks and whatnot. But, not anywhere close to what we were thinking. So, would love to be here long-term, and as of right now, that’s not exactly the case. But I’m under contract for 2026. The guys in that locker room, the staff know that I’m still going to be me — I’m still going to do everything I can to help this team win a Super Bowl. To me, that’s the priority. Everything else will take care of itself.”
Baker Mayfield Linked With Pittsburgh Steelers

Mike Florio of NBC mentioned that the Pittsburgh Steelers could make a swing for Mayfield’s services after the 2026 campaign.
“The Steelers would be a perfect fit for Bucs QB Baker Mayfield if he departs in free agency next offseason,” Florio said.
“I would make a beeline for Mayfield,” he added.

Aaron Rodgers announced he wouldn’t return after the 2026 season. Mayfield’s situation with the Bucs could open the door for Pittsburgh to add another veteran to lead an intriguing offense.
