Former NFL player Brandon Marshall has faced heavy criticism online after a video showed him disciplining his son by making him run at 2 a.m.

The video went viral on social media, sparking many questions. Many people questioned Marshall’s parenting method after seeing his son crying during the run, as well as whether the late-night exercise was a reasonable form of discipline or went too far.

In the video, Marshall follows his son in a vehicle while encouraging him to keep running. He repeatedly tells him to pick up the pace and warns that the run will be longer if he slows down.

Marshall made it clear that he views the exercise as a lesson in discipline rather than physical punishment.

“Discipline correction is good. Even two in the morning, we run. I don’t got to put my hands on you, but I’m training you up to be a warrior,” Marshall said in the video.

He continued to encourage his son while stressing the importance of hard work and accountability.

“I’m training you up to be a leader, to serve, to have discipline, to be better than me. Run, run,” Marshall said.

At another point, he warned his son that the run could become longer if he did not follow instructions.

“If you don’t start running, we’re going to go three miles,” Marshall said. “You don’t want to listen. We run. We work two in the morning.”

Critics argued that the child appeared distressed and questioned whether such discipline helps children learn. Supporters, however, pointed to Marshall’s comments about building character, responsibility, and resilience.

Marshall enjoyed a successful NFL career after the Denver Broncos selected him in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He later played for the Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, New York Jets, New York Giants, and Seattle Seahawks.

During his career, Marshall became known as one of the NFL’s top receivers. He set a league record with 21 catches in a single game in 2009 and recorded at least 100 receptions in three straight seasons from 2007 to 2009.

Since retiring, Marshall has moved into sports media. He co-hosts the TV show Inside the NFL and continues to grow his athlete-focused media brand, I AM ATHLETE.
