The San Francisco 49ers continue to evaluate their quarterback depth as vets gear up for training camp.
NFL reporter Aaron Wilson reported Thursday that reigning UFL MVP Jack Plummer will work out for the team on Friday. Wilson also noted that Plummer has another workout lined up with the Miami Dolphins, set for next week.
“UFL MVP quarterback Jack Plummer will work out for the San Francisco 49ers tomorrow, and has a scheduled workout with the Miami Dolphins next week, per a league source,” he wrote.
The timing makes sense for the Niners.
San Francisco’s rookies have already reported to training camp, while veterans are scheduled to arrive at the team’s SAP Performance Facility in Santa Clara on Friday.
Although a workout does not guarantee a contract, it gives teams another opportunity to evaluate players before finalizing their preseason rosters.
Jack Plummer Earned Another NFL Opportunity After UFL Breakout
Plummer revived his professional career during the 2026 UFL season with the Orlando Storm.
He led the league with 2,188 passing yards and threw 17 touchdown passes against just one interception in 10 regular-season games, earning UFL MVP honors.
Former Super Bowl-winning coach Jon Gruden praised Plummer early in the season and predicted he would finish as the league’s most valuable player.
“He’s seeing the field great. You can design a lot of bootlegs, and (Plummer) can throw the ball accurately on the move… this guy is playing his ass off,” Gruden noted.
Plummer spent six college seasons at Purdue, Cal and Louisville before joining the UFL. He signed with the Carolina Panthers after going undrafted in 2024, spending most of his rookie year on the practice squad before earning a late-season promotion.
The 49ers already have one of the NFL’s more interesting quarterback rooms, led by Brock Purdy and veteran backup Mac Jones — although the latter has been mentioned in trade rumors.
For Plummer, the opportunity represents another chance to prove that his dominant UFL season could translate to NFL success.
