Diego Pavia Is Done, Just Days Before Training Camp

Diego Pavia’s first NFL offseason has taken an unexpected turn just days before the Baltimore Ravens opened training camp.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reports that Baltimore has made a roster move involving the former Vanderbilt quarterback, waiving him right before training camp.
“The #Ravens have waived former #Vanderbilt star QB Diego Pavia prior to training camp,” Rapoport wrote on Thursday.
Pavia joined the Ravens as an undrafted free agent following the 2026 NFL Draft after one of the most memorable college football careers in recent SEC history.
Although he did not hear his name called during the draft, Baltimore gave him an opportunity to compete for a roster spot throughout the offseason. New head coach Jesse Minter immediately threw down a gauntlet, urging him to make the most of his time with the Ravens.
That opportunity has already been cut short.
Diego Pavia Had A Terrific 2025 Season In College
Pavia established himself as one of college football’s biggest stories during his time at Vanderbilt.
He first gained national attention in 2024 after leading the Commodores to a stunning upset over then-No. 1 Alabama. Vanderbilt later finished the season with its first winning record in a decade after defeating Georgia Tech in the Birmingham Bowl.
He took things a step in 2025.
Pavia guided Vanderbilt to the program’s first 10-win season and helped the Commodores earn their highest national ranking since 1948. He threw for 3,539 yards and 29 touchdowns while adding 10 scores on the ground.
His performance earned him SEC Offensive Player of the Year honors and a runner-up finish in the Heisman Trophy race behind eventual winner Fernando Mendoza.
Despite the above, Pavia entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent before signing with Baltimore.
His release comes right before training camp, but it may not mark the end of his professional career. Teams frequently adjust their rosters throughout camp due to injuries, depth-chart changes, and preseason evaluations, creating opportunities for players released elsewhere.
He will hope that other teams will come calling as he knows he has plenty to offer.
