Aaron Rodgers Details Mysterious Wife’s Role In His Steelers Return

Aaron Rodgers nearly walked away from the NFL this year. The 42-year-old quarterback revealed that conversations with his private wife Brittani changed his mind. He now plans to play the 2026 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Rodgers spoke to reporters at training camp on Tuesday. He made clear this will be his final campaign.

The veteran thought his career was over after Mike Tomlin stepped down following the 2025 season. Everything shifted when Mike McCarthy took over as head coach.

McCarthy previously led Rodgers to a Super Bowl title with the Green Bay Packers. The reunion sparked new interest. Rodgers then spoke with his wife.

“I thought last year might be it,” Rodgers said. “And then Mike got hired and I talked to the wife and she said ‘you can do one more year, see if it works out’ and then it all came together.”

He left no room for debate about playing beyond 2026.

“No, zero debate,” Rodgers stated when asked about continuing.

Teammate DK Metcalf has already floated the idea of Rodgers returning for another year. The quarterback shut that down firmly.

Aaron Rodgers Draws Clear Line on Career

Rodgers has kept his wife largely out of the public eye. He first mentioned her on The Pat McAfee Show and later confirmed they married. He has described her as someone who never wanted the spotlight.

“I am with somebody who’s private, who doesn’t want to be in the public eye, didn’t sign up to be a celebrity, doesn’t want to be part of it,” he said.

“And because I do things in private because I want my personal life to be private and now I’m somehow weird and now the paparazzi is stalking me on the beach trying to get a picture of her, stalking me in the workout.”

The couple met in 2017. She has remained private throughout their relationship. Rodgers has repeatedly said she did not sign up for celebrity life.

He also noted he may take extra rest days during the season to stay fresh. The Steelers open the year against the Atlanta Falcons on September 13.
