NFL Fans Furious After CBS Completely Disrespected Drew Brees

CBS Sports released an all-time NFL rankings list that immediately drew heavy criticism. Drew Brees landed at No. 33 overall. Many fans viewed the placement as far too low for one of the most productive quarterbacks in league history.

The 13-time Pro Bowl selection sits behind names such as Sammy Baugh, O.J. Simpson, Brett Favre and Bruce Smith. Supporters quickly pointed out the statistical dominance Brees displayed throughout his career.

Brees retired as the NFL’s all-time leader in passing yards. He also led the league in passing yards seven different times. A Super Bowl MVP title further strengthened his case in the eyes of many.

“Brees took the baton from Steve Young as the most efficient quarterback in league history. He led the NFL in passing yards seven times, completion percentage six times and touchdown passes four times. He retired as a former Super Bowl MVP and the NFL’s career passing leader,” Bryan DeArdo wrote.

Drew Brees Numbers Make the Ranking Hard to Defend

Brees completed more than 80,000 career passing yards. He threw 571 touchdown passes across 20 seasons. His accuracy and consistency stood out even in an era filled with elite quarterbacks.

Fans highlighted comparisons to higher-ranked players. One common reaction noted Dan Marino at No. 10 and Aaron Rodgers at No. 11 while Brees sat at 33. The gap felt excessive to large portions of the online audience.

New Orleans Saints supporters led much of the pushback. They argued that Brees transformed a franchise and delivered sustained excellence for more than a decade.

“Baugh lost that title game 73-0,” one said.

“Drew Brees is a top 3 QB of all time and he ain’t number 3,” another added.

“This can’t be real,” one wrote.

“Unfortunately as time goes on since Brees retired he will continue to get disrespected. It happened when he played and was dropping 300+ passing yards/ week on teams so I’m not shocked. Real ones know his talent,” one commented.

Drew Brees Still Sparks Ranking Debates

All-time lists always generate strong opinions. Championships often carry heavy weight in these rankings. Brees’ lack of multiple titles appears to have cost him several spots.

His career volume and efficiency still rank among the best ever recorded. Many analysts continue to place him firmly inside the top 15 or top 20 quarterbacks of all time. The CBS list took a more conservative approach.

The ranking arrives as another generation of quarterbacks begins to rewrite the record books. Brees’ place in history remains secure for a large segment of the fan base. The latest list simply reopened a familiar debate about how to measure greatness.
