The story surrounding Mohamed Coulibaly has taken a dramatic and unexpected turn.
The 24-year-old, who recently faced allegations of orchestrating a fraudulent investment scheme targeting NFL players, was found dead in a swimming pool at a home in Harrison Township, New Jersey.
Authorities discovered Coulibaly’s body Friday after conducting a welfare check requested by concerned family members, according to local officials.
Investigators have not announced a cause of death. The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Coulibaly’s death comes just weeks after he found himself at the center of serious fraud allegations involving professional athletes.
Barron’s reported that Coulibaly allegedly lured professional athletes into what appeared to be lucrative e-commerce investments by showcasing massive sales figures and promising ownership stakes in successful online stores.
According to the report, those financial records allegedly did not reflect legitimate business activity.
Alleged Investment Scheme Drew NFL Players Into Investigation

Former NFL linebacker Tae Crowder claimed he invested his entire savings, roughly $500,000, after being introduced to Coulibaly through a mutual acquaintance. Crowder later alleged he never received any return on his investment.
Coulibaly denied those accusations when speaking to Barron’s.
He maintained investors had not yet been paid because he was awaiting proceeds from what he described as a planned acquisition involving his business venture.
No criminal conviction had been announced in connection with the allegations before his death. Authorities have not indicated whether the ongoing death investigation is connected to the investment claims.
The case attracted widespread attention because several current and former professional athletes reportedly invested substantial sums into the venture.
Financial fraud involving professional athletes has become an increasingly common story in recent years, as scammers have targeted players with promises of lucrative private investments.
For now, investigators remain focused on determining exactly what happened inside the New Jersey residence.
One investigation was all about missing money. Now, another must determine how the man at the center of it all lost his life.
