Significant Injury Has Maxx Crosby Trade Rumors Heating Up With Major NFC Contender

The Chicago Bears may need to revisit the trade market after a concerning injury update involving defensive end Montez Sweat.
During training camp on Thursday, Sweat appeared to suffer an injury during an 11-on-11 period. According to The Athletic’s Kevin Fishbain, Sweat left the field under his own power and walked into Halas Hall alongside trainer Andre Tucker.
“Bears DE Montez [Sweat] walking into Halas Hall with trainer Andre Tucker,” Fishbain wrote on X. “Sweat seemed to slow up during a rep in 11 on 11 and took himself off the field.”
Chicago has not yet shared details about the injury. However, the situation has renewed questions about the Bears’ pass rush depth heading into the 2026 season.
The Bears finished the 2025 campaign with 35 sacks. Sweat accounted for 10 of those sacks across 17 starts. Chicago chose not to make a major addition at edge rusher during free agency. Instead, the team placed its faith in Austin Booker’s development and Dayo Odeyingbo’s return to form after signing him to a four-year, $48 million deal.
Crosby Rumors Gain New Momentum

The uncertainty around Montez Sweat is getting new trade rumors about Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby.
Chicago actually tried to trade for Crosby before free agency earlier this year, but the Raiders’ asking price was too high. Now, with serious questions about their pass rush, the Bears look like a natural fit once again.
ESPN insider Adam Schefter recently hinted that Crosby could be back on the trade block if the Raiders struggle early in the season.
“What if the Raiders are 1-5, 2-6, and we’re coming up to the trade deadline in the first week in November and there’s a team out there that can use a pass-rusher? And Maxx is playing at the level that we think he can?” Schefter said. “I think that’s when the trade potentially could come back into play. And I think that’s when it might be time to start paying attention.”
Maxx Crosby has said he is “all in” and wants to be a “Raider for life”. The time that could be tested is leading up to the NFL trade deadline.

Chicago could be in real trouble if Sweat misses extended time or if backup options fail to step up, as they simply lack proven talent at such a crucial position.
They won’t be the only ones interested, either. The Falcons just lost Jalon Walker to a season-ending ACL injury, and both the Vikings and Packers could also be hunting for edge-rush help.
Crosby turns 29 later this month, but he’s still absolutely brilliant on defense, coming off a season with 28 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. Plus, he’s under contract through 2029.
If the Bears want to boost their defense for a serious playoff run, they have plenty of reason to call the Raiders back sooner rather than later.
